Le Vieux Pin in the south Okanagan valley has raised the bar on BC Syrah in a short time, and winemaker Severine Pinte is largely to thank for this groundswell.
The Cuvée Violette is the entry level Syrah, with the Classique and Equinoxe Syrahs the higher tiers. (I’ll have notes on these shortly).
For the 2014 vintage, the Syrah in Cuvée Violette was co-fermented with 1% of Roussanne. Pretty and floral on the nose, on the palate its youth comes through. In the front palate, dusty raspberries are king and the back palate highlights the grippy tannins.
While the 2013 vintage was an immediate drinker, the 2014 can use some more time in the bottle.
